Helen: Bruce 想让我们解答几个单词之间的区别.这几个单词分别是 nervous, tense, intense 还有 strained.初看这几个词都带有紧张的意思,但具体的含义和用法还是 有些不一样的.我们一个一个来看看吧. 第一个词是 nervous. 这个词我自己经常用,一碰到让我精神紧张的情况我就会说 I am so nervous.比如:我特别怕打针了,一到医院我就特别害怕,特别紧张 I am really scared of injections, I get very nervous going to hospitals. 让我们听听 什么事情会让人觉得 nervous. Examples I am nervous of speaking in public. It's really stressful. 在公众面前讲话 speak in public 会让人觉得紧张. Last week, I was feeling pretty nervous when I went on my first date. 第一次约会 first date 让他紧张. I stayed at a country house on my own once and that made me quite nervous. 自己一个人在乡村的一个大房子里住着,难怪会觉得有些害怕紧张. Helen: 接下来我们看看 tense 这个词. 它可以用来形容神经紧绷着的样子.比如 John is looking tense,John 看着挺紧张的.它也可以用来描绘一个形势,比如两国关系比 较紧张 - Relations between the two neighbouring states were tense. 还有如 果你的肌肉感觉很紧,特别酸、特别紧.那么你可以说 My muscles are very tense and they are getting really stiff. 我的肌肉很紧,都僵住了. 另一个词 intense 虽然仅仅是在 tense 前面加了 in,可是意思和用法是不一样的. 当我们听到 intense 的时候,更多的会想到的解释是热情的,或者是强烈的,激烈 的.比如说,The fire is so intense 意思是火烧得很大、很厉害.The red in this painting is very intense 这幅画中的红色特别鲜艳.我们也可以形容一个人对什么 事情有很强烈的感情或意见,David is an intense young man, he is passionate Q and A of the Week 你问我答 ? Strained 也能表达两者之间的关系紧张,比如:The relationship between Ruth and her daughter is quite strained, they hardly talk to each other. Ruth 和 她的女儿关系不好,她们几乎不讲话. 朋友们可能会问到底什么时候用哪个词呢?这和你想说什么很重要. 如果涉及到我自己对什么事情感到紧张,我会说 I'm nervous about something. 要是我想说某人平时是个容易紧张的人,那我也会用 nervous 或者 tense 来形容 他. 如果是要形容两人或两国关系紧张,那tense 和strained 比较适合. 如果想说事 情发展到了很激烈的情况,那你就可以用 intense.Intense 这个词也能形容一个人 的性格和对事情的态度.
