Labour Productivity Index (LPI) is an important economic indicator of an economy. It shows how efficiently labour input is used for generating real output and is very useful for analysing the contribution of changes in labour productivity to various industries and the economy as a whole. Factors affecting changes in LPI include changes in technology, organisational structures, management practices and capital, etc. This article outlines the methodology and data sources currently used for compiling LPIs in Hong Kong, and analyses the LPIs for various major economic activities during
