2019 2 The volume and variety of trade shows in China are undergoing substantial change. Prior to 2010, most trade shows in China were hosted in the same city by the same operator year after year, such as the Guangzhou Trade Fair or SIAL in Shanghai. Such predictability has become more of the exception than the rule. As a result of the national leadership'

s efforts to modernize and urbanize China'

s infrastructure, more and more cities are vying for the tourism dollars and commercial prestige that comes from hosting major business events. Cities, such as Shenyang, Liaoning Province, are opening state-of-the-art venues (see separate report) that are directly tied into newly built hotels and subways. Similarly, the timing of a show can change and some commodities and some commodity sectors, such as food or dairy products, may have more than one national-level trade show. This goal of this report is to introduce U.S. exporters of farm, fishery and forest products to the major trade shows taking place throughout China. Exporters are encouraged to conduct their own research to verify costs, obligations, and the necessary logistics prior to registration to attend or exhibit at any particular show. In order to make that work easier, FAS has also provided the relevant contact information. Companies who are new to exporting to China are also encouraged to first attend a trade show and walk the floor to observe the event'

s flow, layout, and clientele. Trade shows in China, especially when hosted by newer players, can sometimes emphasize quantity and scale rather than quality of exhibitor or delegate. For more information about any particular show, the U.S. Agricultural Trade Office for the relevant region will be glad to assist.
