许多使用过这套注释书的人都认为它达到了编写的目的. 然而,时代改变了,这套曾经服务优良、造就多人的注释书,似乎已不如以往贴切了.新知识陆续发现, 对圣经批判的讨论不断进行,一般人读经的习惯也改变了.在编写原先的丁道尔注释时,一般人普遍使用钦定 本圣经,因此我们可按钦定本来注释;

但是目前情况不复当年. 重修这全套注释并不是项轻易的决定, 然而就目前来说是绝对必要的,因为新的需要得由新书来提升服务 品质,至少需要全然重修旧书.所以我们保留了原先注释的目标,新的注释不致太精简或太冗长,其解经性重 于讲道性.我们不含括全部的圣经批判问题,然而作者对新约学者们一般注意的问题也都留意到.当他们觉得 某些问题必须正式提出时,就会在引言或注脚中予以讨论. 新的注释书其意不在于作批判式的研经, 而在于帮助非专业的读者更明白圣经. 我们不假设每位读者都具 有希腊文的知识,所以书中讨论的希腊文都有音译;

每位作者都必须使用希腊原文圣经作他们注释的根据,但 作者可自由选择他使用的现代译本, 我们也要求他们在选用的译本之外注意现行通用的各种译本. 我们谨推出 新丁道尔圣经注释,希望它和原先此套注释书一样,蒙神赐福使用,帮助一般读者更完满、更清楚地明白新约 的意义. 主编 莫理斯(LEON MORRIS) 第一版作者自序 启示录是一本很难懂的书.书中象征是属于第一世纪的,自然不易为今人所了解.既不了解,二十世纪的 人索性置之高阁,认为不合时代,启示录因而大受忽略.这真是不幸得很,因为启示录中的权力神学正是合时 不过,权力问题正是现在最大的问题之一.这本注释尽力将启示录的象征解释外,更试图以书中扩息应用到今 世的问题. 启示录有许多我无法解答的难题, 但我希望在我能力所及的范围内, 最少能将书中要义向读者阐明. 研究启示录的难题之一,就是解经派系的众多,议论纷纭各执己见,认为只有自己的解释是唯一正确的解 释.我花了不少工夫阅读并衡量各派的理论,但有关启示录的著作真是不可胜数,我不可能全部通晓,只能说 在我努力阅读和研究的过程中,实在获益不少.多方研究的结果,我仍无法全心全意的拥护任一主流学派,但 我必须声明,我的异议是经过深思熟虑,而不是轻妄之举.在研究过程中得到多方多人协助,除一部分在注脚 中列出外,不可能全数一一列举,只能在此笼统的表示衷心感谢. 本书的筹划历经多年,因此我有机会反复的思考书中各问题,但本书的执笔往往是仓促片断.身为校长, 繁忙的校务缠身,著作只能忙里抽闲,也是无可奈何的,错漏在所难免,请读者多多包涵.在此我还得特别向 总编辑和出版社致谢,他们老早已将此书托付于我.因此早有权利向我索稿,但对我的耽延仍一再宽容,我十 分感谢. 莫理斯(Leon Morris) 第二版作者自序 启示录注释第一版出版后,我有机会听取不少读者的意见,并阅读继之而出的有关著作,实在感到幸运. 近年所看过令我得益最多的注释包括 Beasley-Murray,Mounce, Ladd, Sweet 等人的注释. 今日欣逢拙著再版, 正好给我机会将所学到的新知加入,并将原版之朦胧欠缺处,澄清并补充.新版中的圣经版本我改用新国际英 译本,因此有不少零碎的改动.新国际译本不够表达希腊原意时,我便用自己的译文,相信不会给读者带来任 何困难. 新版的变动虽不少,但只是为了增进本书的用途,并没有变更原著的基本立场. 莫理斯 简写一览 Abbott Edwin A.
